Quark
Posted by Roo - 27/08/07 at 06:08:27 pmI always thought quarks should be the tangiest of all the fermions. Leptons, of course, would be positively sugary by comparison.
Ok, ok. No-one like a bad particle physics pun. Turns out quark is a type of cheese, as well as a subatomic particle. Who would have thought it.

Well, remembering A-Level physics, don’t subatomic particles come in flavours?

The certainly do. Well remembered, that man. Quarks come in the flavours of up, down, strange, charm, bottom, and top. ‘Sharp’ and ‘tangy’ are not included, though probably should have been.

While we’re doing bad sub-atomic particle puns….What’s a tachyon? It’s a gluon that’s dried out a bit. I know – I’ll get my coat

“Quark” – not forgetting the hideously decrepit desktop publishing software of the same name, of which the experience of using can also be a bit like eating mouldy cheese, and which I wish we could nuke into sub-atomic particles so it’s never seen again.
